Southwest Airlines Has Two Active Promotions To Earn 5x Points

by joeheg

If you have any of the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards co-brand cards issued by Chase, there are two offers for bonus points when using your card.

All four of the Southwest cards are eligible for these offers.

The first offer is for bonus points when making purchases from Southwest.

Earn 5 points per $1 spent on Southwest travel purchases made with your Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card

Register now. Then, book travel between 8/1/2020 and 9/30/2020. You’ll receive 5 points per $1, up to $2,000 spent per month. Use all those points on future reward travel. Plus, all points count toward qualifying for Companion Pass.

You have to register to be eligible at this link. I was having trouble getting the link to work, so I logged into my Southwest account and registered from there.

Considering that Southwest co-brand cards already earn 2x or 3x points on Southwest purchases, it’s not as great of an offer as it sounds. The points earned to count towards getting the Companion Pass but do not count towards A-List.

The other offer could be more valuable (although it may be a targeted offer)

You can earn 5X points on grocery store and gas station purchases for up to $1,500 per month. Since it’s already September, you can only earn 7,500 miles (6,000 over the 1,500 you’d usually get earning 1X for all spending on the card).

I receive an email from Chase with links to both of these offers so check your mailboxes. You can try and see if you’re eligible for this offer by going to https://www.chase.com/mybonus.

It feels like every card is out there with bonuses for supermarkets, restaurants and gas stations. I’m currently using our Bonvoy AMEX to get 10X Marriott points for Gas stations and restaurants, which I’ll continue to do but I’ll switch our grocery spending to the Southwest for the rest of the month.

The wallet rotation is getting a workout this year.
