New Requirements For Traveling To Canada Announced

by SharonKurheg

The border between the U.S. and Canada remains closed and Prime Minister Trudeau has given his thoughts of when the border will reopen.

The monthly “the border’s still closed” announcement happens every month, but certain people can still travel between the two countries, under certain conditions. For those flying in from the U.S. or any other country, there are new requirements, including protocols for mandatory quarantine plans.

Canada has updated their ArriveCAN system. Effective November 21, all travelers flying in the country must digitally submit specific information  before they board their flight. If that’s somehow not possible, they can call 1-833-641-0343 to submit their information. This info includes as travel and contact information, their quarantine plan (unless they’re exempt) and a COVID-19 symptom self-assessment.

After travelers planning to enter Canada have submitted their information before their flight, they must be prepared to show their ArriveCAN receipt upon entry into the country.

Those who don’t follow through can expect to face delays at the border, and potentially receive a verbal warning and/or a $1,000 fine.

Travelers arriving in Canada by air or sea are also encouraged to use ArriveCan as a time saver. They can show their ArriveCAN receipt to border services offer who greets them.

Once arriving in Canada, all travelers, regardless of how they entered, will be required to submit information about arriving at their place of quarantine. This needs to be done through ArriveCAN within 48 hours of arrival. After that, they’ll be required to complete a daily COVID-19 symptom self-assessment.

Travelers who don’t have the ArriveCAN app and called the toll free number to register will need to call 1-833-641-0343 daily to fulfill their quarantine requirements.

In cases of non-compliance, your information may be shared with the RCMP and provincial and territorial law enforcement agencies. Fines up upwards of $1000 are possible.
