Tour groups from most countries, including the U.S., will be soon be allowed to visit Israel again, as part of a pilot program.
As reported in the Jerusalem Times, beginning on September 19th, foreign groups of vaccinated tourists from selected countries will be allowed into Israel.
Only tourists coming from countries classified by the Israeli Health Ministry as “yellow” or “orange” can be part of the groups. All countries in the world EXCEPT Brazil, Bulgaria, Mexico and Turkey, are either “yellow” or “orange.” The other 4 are classified as “red” and tourists can’t visit from those countries.
Tourists must show proof of a second vaccination recognized by the Health Ministry that was received within the last six months, or of a third vaccination. Visitors will also be required to present a negative PCR test, taken up to 72 hours before arrival, as well as take a serological test upon landing, to prove the presence of antibodies in their blood.
Israel previously allowed small tour groups to visit in May 2021, but the program was stopped as the Delta variant spread and, at the time, lead to a surge of infections in the country.
The ministry said that “not one corona case was identified among the groups” that entered after the restrictions were eased in May. It said it hoped individual tourists would be allowed to visit in the near future, “depending on morbidity rates in Israel and around the world.”
