TWA Hotel Fixes One Huge Problem For Guests

by joeheg

We stayed at the TWA Hotel for the second time this summer and while we still enjoyed ourselves, it wasn’t the same as the first time. It’s difficult for any hotel to stand up to your memories and expectations on a second stay. Not all hotels are the Goldener Hirsch and are even better than you remembered.

It wasn’t any single thing that stood out, but several little things that took a bit of the shine off of our recent stay. One of our major problems with the hotel was that there wasn’t anywhere to eat breakfast beside the coffee cart and food hall.

Guests are trapped in the middle of JFK Airport and there’s no easy way to get to a nearby restaurant. After deciding it wouldn’t be worth it to take a $70 rideshare for bagels at a nearby shop, we ended up paying $60 to take the subway to Brooklyn to have lunch at Junior’s.

That problem is getting fixed on November 1st when the Paris Café by Jean-Georges will resume breakfast service. Missing since the restaurant reopened in March 2021, guests of the hotel will now be able to sit down for a hot (or cold) breakfast.

If previous prices are any indication, breakfast isn’t going to be cheap.  Avocado toast starts at $14 and an omelet is $18. OMAAT stayed in 2019 and reviewed the breakfast selection, which looks tasty. While I’m not a huge fan of overpriced eggs or pancakes for breakfast at a hotel, it’s a solid option if your only other choice is a $70 Uber ride for a bagel.

Seating at the restaurant is limited and, starting on November 1st, reservations for the Dining Room and Libson Lounge are available on RESY for 7 AM to 11 AM seatings

If the restaurant was open when we stayed, we undoubtedly would have eaten there. In retrospect, I’m glad it wasn’t available because then we wouldn’t have gone to Juniors for deli sandwiches and cheesecake.

TWA Hotel stands for The Worst Airport Hotel. Why…WHY…would anyone stay here, when you can tour the facility, have a drink, and get out….before the issues with their cramped rooms, non-existent customer service, and fees for EVERYTHING ruin your day. I had such high hopes for this hotel and this concept, but they fail on ALL of the service metrics that I’d expect for the rates at this property.
