Hello and happy Sunday, travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, so we’re passing them along.
- On March 29th Marriott Bonvoy will do away with award charts and no longer use off-peak, standard and peak pricing. Instead, they’re going to “Flexible Point Redemptions” which is a fancy way to say that the number of points will closely match the cash price of rooms. This isn’t the end of the world (yet) because the points needed for redemptions will stay within the current range for all but 200 properties until the end of 2022. If you’re looking at one of those hotels, you should probably book right away.
- I love my Travelpro luggage. It’s designed well and the company makes sure that the dimensions listed are accurate. I also find the price to be reasonable for something I don’t need to last FOREVER but don’t want to buy a new one every year either. If you’re looking for a new bag, there’s a great $30 AMEX Offer for a $150 purchase from the Travelpro website. Just make sure not to over stuff your bag in case you need to put it in the sizer at the gate.
- United Airlines recently sent an offer to elite members offering a 15,000-mile bonus for enrolling with CLEAR. This bonus is even better because you can use the CLEAR credit from either your AMEX Green or AMEX Platinum card to pay for most or all of the cost. And don’t forget that you can add three adults to your account for $60 each.
- Several hotel chains announced plans to do away with single-use toiletries. If you’ve stayed at hotels recently, you’ve noticed that those little bottles of shampoo and conditioner are still there because hotels have delayed plans to replace them with bulk containers. This doesn’t mean bans on single-use products in New York, Hawaii and California won’t force hotels in those areas from making the changes sooner.
- If you’re like me, you may have forgotten that British Airways Avios expire if you have no account activity in 36 months. That’s a generous policy and it’s pretty easy to keep your account active. What I didn’t know is that there’s a good reason to credit at least 1 Avios to your British Airways Executive Club account every year.
