MCO’s Plaza Premium Orlando Lounge Lands Celebrity Chef

by joeheg

We’re getting close. It’s only a month and a half until the grand opening of Orlando International Airport’s (MCO) multi-billion dollar Terminal C expansion. News has been coming out in dribs and drabs but now we have a pretty good idea about what it’s going to look like when it opens.

Operationally, it will make a big difference by adding new gates with the ability to handle any size plane the world has to offer. Several airlines have already committed to moving to the new terminal.

In addition, Plaza Premium has announced they will open a club space on the second floor of the post-security Palm Court.

Thanks to Orlando food writer Scott Joseph, we now know that celebrity chef Roberto Treviño will be working with Plaza Premium, presumably on the lounge’s food offerings. The chef, who has been seen on Iron Chef and Beat Bobby Flay, was previously working with Orlando restaurants Taverna Opa and Tapa Toro, both located on International Drive.

Air travel and chefs seem to go hand in hand. Airlines often tout how their onboard menus were developed with the help of celebrity chefs. American Express famously partners with local chefs to develop menus for their Centurion Lounges.

The lounge apparently will offer more substantial food offerings than trail mix and cookies. I’m interested to see the options that the chef has in mind for an airport lounge serving premium passengers headed to various international destinations.
