The Las Vegas Strip is Getting Its First Tiki Bar in 20 Years

by SharonKurheg

Joe and I love tiki bars. Whenever we travel, we usually look to see if the area has a decent tiki bar, and visit if we get a chance. With that, we’ve been able to go to:

…and many more.

One of us (not Joe) maaaaay even have a teeny tiny tiki mug collection…

Anyway, in the 15 or so years we’ve been visiting Las Vegas, I was always surprised that the Las Vegas strip didn’t have a tiki bar. I mean, sure there’s The Golden Tiki, Frankie’s Tiki Room (we went to that one several years ago. I wanted to like it but OMG, SO MUCH cigarette smoke!) and a handful of others, but they’re all off the strip.

Fortunately for tiki fans worldwide, there’s finally going to be a tiki bar on the strip – the first one in nearly 20 years!

Eater Las Vegas is reporting that Resorts World is closing their Genting Palace Lounge – open since June 2021, that’s the lounge that leads to their high-end Genting Place Chinese restaurant – and is turning it into a tiki bar.

On April 17, the bar will reopen as the Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge. From Resorts World’s website:

The Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge will immerse guests in a lively paradise as they are surrounded by classic Tiki bar decor with a welcoming feel. The stunning venue will feature signature elements such as the golden monkey statues that sit perched above the bar, blended with elevated touches for a more modern ambiance.

The last time the Las Vegas strip had a tiki bar was in the early 2000s, back when the Venetian offered Taboo Cove. It didn’t last long; only from 2001 to late 2004. There’s a great picture and discussion about it on Facebook.

Similar to other tiki bars, Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge will have a menu that includes traditional tiki drinks like the rum-based Jungle Bird and Scorpion. The lounge will also offer photo-worthy (of course) punch bowls, including rum, vodka and tequila-based bowls for groups to share during a night out with friends.

The dress code for the lounge will be upscale casual (no caps/hats/sandals/flip flops). Reservations can be made on Resort World’s website.

Aloha!

I’m not quite as fervent a fan of tiki bars but this is still good news. Love the gargoyle on top of the display cabinet btw.
