Southwest is no stranger to unique liveries. They have several aircraft with designs that pay homage to the states where they fly. For example, this plane dubbed “Louisiana One” represents the state flag which prominently features a pelican.
To celebrate Southwest’s fourth anniversary of Hawaii interisland flights, they painted one of their 737-MAX 8 planes with a distinctively Hawaiian theme. Here’s a video with the amazing paint job done to create Imua One.
I don’t know about you, but I can watch time-lapse videos of planes getting painted all day long :-).
This Southwest plane isn’t brand new. In fact, it’s about 6 years old. Until now, it had a standard Southwest paint job. However, being ETOPS certified means it’s one of Southwest’s 737 MAX-8 fleet that can make the flight to Hawaii from the West Coast.
- Ohana (Family): Root in relationships.
- Honu (Turtle): Move with perseverance.
- Aina (Land): Find common ground.
- Ama (Support): Connect to strengthen and balance.
- Hoku (Star): Guide with purpose.
- Kai (Ocean): Harness good energy.
- Lokahi (Unity): Succeed with Teamwork.
- Imua (Forward): Go forward with strength, courage, and strong spirit.
I’m sure that Southwest will try to use this plane for Hawaii flights but keep your eye out as you’ll never know where Imua One might turn up.
