Pokémon Characters Featured in New ANA Flight Safety & Disembarkation Videos

by SharonKurheg

Airlines that show a in-flight safety video are always on the look out for a “hook” to keep people focused on the video. Over the years they’ve used humor, beauty, art and well-known performers, among other creative agendas, to keep passengers’ attention on the screen.

Japan’s All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) most recent safety video, which was released in late 2021, is none of those things. In fact, although informative (and starring employees from various divisions of ANA), it’s also a little on the dry side.

Their disembarkation video (“Follow the employees you have met in our new in-flight safety video to each of their workplaces and have a glimpse of how they all come together to provide you with a safe and pleasant flight experience.“) is equally uninspiring.

But it’s 2024 and ANA has recently taken a HUGE step forward in producing videos that are just as informative, but more fun to watch.

Pokémon!

Instead of featuring employees, or showing gorgeous views of the likes of Mt. Fuji, Kyoto, etc., the Japanese carrier has opted to feature characters from video game series Pokémon to highlight safety guidelines. At quick glance, I spy First Gen Pokémon such as Psyduck, Farfetch’d, Jigglypuff, Machamp, Mr. Mime, Sandshrew, Metapod, and of course, Pikachu. And if you’re more into the newer gen characters, Pichu, Ludicolo, Lucario, Emolga, Rowlet, Gossifleur, and Floragato can also be seen.

Take a look:

Their disembarkation video, which follows in the same vein, is just as cute:

“We aim to provide excitement to our customers and provide an in-flight safety video that can be enjoyed by people of all ages,” the airline said of its collaboration with Nintendo’s The Pokémon Company.

ANA has a long history of collaborating with the Pokémon Company, with multiple characters featured on at least 10 of their jets’ liveries since 1998.

So it’s nice to see the IP expanded to ANA’s videos now!
