Limited Time Offer: Accelerate Your Delta SkyMiles Status with MQDs from Hotel & Car Rentals

Airline loyalty programs have two main parts that serve different purposes. The first part is all about earning points for free flights, which I’ll call the “awards side.” The other part, the “status side,” is important for frequent travelers who stick to one airline. It helps them get special treatment and perks.

The majority of bonuses that are advertised typically emphasize the rewards aspect of the programs, as this is the part that appeals to a larger number of customers. However, every now and then, you may come across a promotional offer that highlights the status benefits.

SkyMiles Status

In 2024, Delta SkyMiles transitioned to a new method for attaining status for 2025 and subsequent years. Going forward, Medallion status with Delta will be achieved by accruing Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQDs). Typically, MQDs can be earned by flying with Delta or its partner airlines, utilizing a Delta co-brand credit card, or booking a Delta Vacations package.

However, for a limited time, Delta is awarding MQDs for hotels, vacation rentals and car rentals booked through the Delta website.

Medallion Qualifying Dollars For Hotels and Rental Cars

For travel booked by September 30 and completed by October 31, 2024, Delta SkyMiles members will earn 1 MQD per dollar spent on hotels, rental cars and vacation rentals booked through Delta.

To earn the MQDs, you need to book hotels and vacation rentals through the Delta Stays website. Rental cars have a separate landing page for the promotion.

I recently booked a hotel through Delta Stays, since that’s the website you need to use to redeem the hotel credit from the Delta co-brand AMEX cards.

Final Thought

With Delta switching to MQDs as the sole method for earning status, this could be an effortless way to increase your balance toward the next Medallion level.

I think some of us are wary of not booking hotels and rental cars (and flights) directly with the company providing the service. When there is a problem there frequently seems to be the attitude of, “Oh, I see you didn’t book directly with us, so you’ll have to call whoever you made the booking with.” Thoughts?

PS: Keep up the interesting work.
