Chase Extends Pay Yourself Back Program into 2025

by joeheg

Good news for Chase cardholders! The Pay Yourself Back program has been extended, and new bonus categories are available through March 31, 2025. This gives you even more opportunities to redeem your Ultimate Rewards points for everyday expenses. Initially launched in June 2020, this program was Chase’s response to the pandemic, allowing cardholders to use their points on non-travel expenses when travel was off the table.

As travel resumed, Chase scaled back the program, reducing bonuses and limiting eligible categories. Despite these adjustments, the program has persisted, with extensions rolling out every three months. Now, it continues into 2025 with expanded categories and bonuses, ensuring flexibility for cardholders.

Updated Categories for Sapphire Reserve Cardholders

Through March 31, 2025, Sapphire Reserve cardholders can redeem points for statement credits in the following categories:

  • Gas Stations – 25% bonus
  • Grocery Stores – 25% bonus
  • Utilities – 25% bonus
  • Insurance – 25% bonus
  • Fitness Clubs & Gym Memberships – 25% bonus
  • Select Charities – 50% bonus
  • Annual Fee – 25% bonus

Other Chase Ultimate Rewards Cards

While Sapphire Reserve offers the most diverse categories, other Chase cards still provide value. Sapphire Preferred, Chase Freedom (Flex, Unlimited & Original), and Ink Business cards can redeem points for donations to select charities with a 25% bonus.

Here’s the full list of eligible charities for Pay Yourself Back:

  • American Red Cross
  • Equal Justice Initiative
  • Feeding America
  • GLSEN
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • International Medical Corps
  • International Rescue Committee
  • Leadership Conference Education Fund
  • Make-A-Wish America
  • NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund
  • National Urban League
  • Out & Equal Workplace Advocates
  • SAGE
  • Thurgood Marshall College Fund
  • United Negro College Fund
  • UNICEF USA
  • United Way
  • World Central Kitchen

Several of these organizations, such as World Central Kitchen, International Rescue Committee, and UNICEF USA, actively support relief efforts in Ukraine, allowing your points redemptions to make a meaningful global impact.

Why It Matters

Pay Yourself Back continues to offer flexibility for redeeming points, especially for those not focused on travel redemptions. Adding everyday categories like Utilities, Insurance, and Fitness Clubs ensures that cardholders can maximize the program’s value.

Maximize Your Points

For those seeking higher value, transferring Ultimate Rewards points to travel partners like Hyatt, Singapore Airlines, or United Airlines often yields better returns. Travel redemptions remain the best way to maximize the value of your points, especially if you’re planning a trip in 2025.

Final Thoughts

The Pay Yourself Back program remains a practical option for offsetting everyday expenses. With the expanded categories available until March 31, 2025, and a 50% bonus for charitable donations, it’s a worthwhile consideration for Sapphire Reserve users and other cardholders. Additionally, your contributions to select charities can make a significant impact, including support for global relief efforts like those in Ukraine.
