I love taking advantage of increased payouts from shopping portals to maximize my purchases. When shopping online, using a portal can earn extra cashback or valuable rewards points on top of any credit card rewards you’re already earning.
Comparing Portal Payouts for the Best Returns
To find the best rates, I check Cashback Monitor to compare payouts across different portals. Depending on the retailer, I’ve found that Rakuten, TopCashback, Capital One Shopping, and the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal often offer some of the best returns.
While cashback is great, I particularly love when I can stack rewards with Chase Ultimate Rewards. These points are valuable since they can be transferred to World of Hyatt and other travel partners for great redemptions.
Why Chase Freedom Cards Offer Better Portal Bonuses
A trend I’ve noticed over time is that Chase often offers better portal bonuses on their no-annual-fee cards compared to their premium cards. In many cases, I’ve earned more points using my Chase Freedom Unlimited than I would with my Ink Business or Sapphire cards.
This pattern continues across various merchants— Under Armour, Home Depot, and Apple.
For each, the Freedom cards consistently offer better portal bonuses than Sapphire or Ink. It’s possible that Chase structures it this way since the Freedom cards technically earn cashback, while Sapphire and Ink cards earn Ultimate Rewards that can be transferred to travel partners.
Transferring Points for Maximum Value
If you have multiple Chase cards, there’s good news—you can transfer points earned on a Freedom card to a Sapphire Preferred or Ink Preferred card, unlocking the ability to transfer them to Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Aeroplan, World of Hyatt, and more.
Some people dismiss the no-annual-fee Chase Freedom cards, but I think having one in your portfolio makes sense—especially when opportunities like these arise.

I wouldn’t have one. My in-laws have one and they’re a pain. The website never works regardless of the browser you use. I’ve used it on 3 different browsers on 4 different machines (2 IOS – Safari and 2 PCs – Edge & Chrome). The site tells me to use their app which I downloaded to3 different IOS devices and the app doesn’t work either. I can only pay them via my bank bill pay or check. Their customer service never answers my emails on how to resolve the issue. Once we have their bill paid off, we’re closing their account permanently. I’ll stick with CapitalOne cards. Their site and app always works regardless
