Famous Last Words: “Hooray, I’m In Boarding Group One!”

by SharonKurheg

I’ve already written about my disdain of the “cattle call” methodology of getting onto a plane. Oh sure, Southwest had figured out ways to make it more bearable but even they’re taking it away pretty soon. And for virtually all the other airlines, it’s still a matter of everyone standing by the gates, waiting for their group to be called. It sure can be one LLLOOONNNGGG wait, though, even if you’re in Boarding Group 1, as the man in this video quickly discovered:

Heads up that although funny, this video, which most people can relate to, may be NSFW due to adult language.

Truth be told, even if I don’t show it while I’m standing there, waiting for my group to be called, sometimes I feel the exact same way.

Worst IMHO is United. People in boarding group 1 line up because so many get on board before them and then about half the plane out of hub cities qualifies as group 1. I’m partial to American’s process which just go better with first class (or international business class) preboarding with Concierge Key members then Executive Platinum are group 1 (currently first boards with group 1 along with EP which is still better than DL or UA)

I like the celebrity approach – Years ago on a flight out of LA I noticed a celebrity in the gate area. The attendants brought him and daughter on last after everyone was seated into first class (and they got off first), made sense. Since then I follow his example (except on Southwest), No Group 1 anxiety, wait until the very end to board — with ease. What’s the rush, I have an aisle seat. But Southwest…is the reverse.

Loved the video..It is so true..Now that DM’s on Delta have been demoted again..We are now in zone 2,,, AKA zone 8—after all of the others are called then Zone 1 then Zone 2.. It is amazing how many people go on when Pre-Boarding for peeps needing assistance are called….
