Whether you just want to sleep off a late-night adventure, squeeze in a last dip at the pool, or avoid killing hours at the airport, late checkout can feel like the ultimate travel luxury.
Fortunately, many hotel loyalty programs offer this coveted perk to their members. The catch? Not all late checkout policies are created equal. Some brands guarantee it, others offer it “when available,” and a few barely acknowledge the concept at all.
Here’s a breakdown of the late checkout policies at the major U.S. hotel chains as of 2025, and which ones treat their loyal guests to that extra time the best.
Hotel Late Checkout Policies by Brand
Accor Live Limitless
- Silver: Late checkout, subject to availability.
- Gold: Early check-in OR late checkout.
- Platinum & Diamond: Early check-in AND late checkout. Availability varies by property.
Choice Privileges
- Late checkout available up to 2 p.m. in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, and Central America; or up to 2 hours past standard checkout in Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and other international locations.
- Requests must be made before standard checkout and are subject to availability.
- Not available at WoodSpring Suites, Ascend all-inclusives, casinos, or certain other properties.
Hilton Honors
- No guaranteed late checkout for any tier.
- Coming in 2026: Paid late checkout option, starting at $40 for lower-tier properties, up to $60 for luxury brands like Canopy and Waldorf Astoria.
IHG One Rewards
- All members can request late checkout up to 2 p.m., subject to availability. Applies to all IHG brands.
Marriott Bonvoy
- Silver Elite and above: Late checkout up to 2 p.m., based on availability at most brands. Not valid at vacation clubs, residences, MGM Collection, or Sonder properties.
- Platinum Elite and above: Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout at most brands (except resorts, convention hotels, StudioRes, and Design Hotels). Sonder and Apartments by Marriott offer guaranteed 2 p.m. with 4 p.m. upon request and availability.
- MGM Collection: Platinum/Titanium can request 2 p.m., Ambassador Elite can request 4 p.m.
Wyndham Rewards
- Gold, Platinum, and Diamond members: May request late checkout up to 2 hours past standard checkout time, subject to availability.
- Must request before the posted checkout time. Applies at participating Wyndham Hotels for qualifying stays.
World of Hyatt
- Discoverist & Explorist: Can request 2 p.m. late checkout, subject to availability (excludes resorts, casino hotels, Hyatt Vacation Club).
- Globalist: Can request a 4 p.m. late checkout; same exclusions apply. The resort vs. hotel distinction can be tricky; calling ahead is advised.
Our Take
If you value guaranteed late checkout, Marriott (Platinum Elite+) and Hyatt (Globalist) offers the best benefits. Most other brands provide late checkout only as a courtesy and subject to availability. Hilton is the least consistent with no guaranteed benefit, though they plan to introduce paid late checkout options starting in 2026. As always, call the front desk in advance to verify availability, even if your loyalty tier suggests eligibility.
