Hilton’s “Points Plus” Promotion Is Back. And It’s Not Great

by joeheg

Hilton Honors has launched its newest promotion for summer 2025, and it might sound familiar. That’s because it’s once again called Points Plus, just like the promo they ran at the beginning of 2024. And while the name remains the same, the value doesn’t.

How the 2025 “Points Plus” Promo Works

Here are the key details:

  • Promotion period: June 1 – August 15, 2025
  • Earn: 1,000 bonus points per stay
  • Registration: Required before checking out from your first eligible stay

According to Hilton, a “stay” is defined as the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity. Therefore, back-to-back bookings at the same property are counted as a single stay because they know that someone out there would book 10 one-night stays to get the extra points.

That’s it. No multipliers, no variable bonuses, no stay-length tiers. On paper, it’s simple — but in practice, it’s not especially rewarding.

This Version Isn’t Great for *Anyone*

Most Hilton promotions are structured to benefit either:

  • Guests who stay frequently (with a bonus for each stay), or
  • Guests with longer stays (with double or triple points per night)

However, this “Points Plus” promotion finds itself in an awkward middle ground. The bonus is tied to each stay, which might sound good for those doing a lot of short trips, but 1,000 points isn’t worth very much. For the way I redeem Hilton Honors points, that’s somewhere between $5 and $6 per stay.

No Kicker, No Extra Incentives

Previous Hilton promotions have sometimes included a little something extra, such as additional bonuses for resort stays, using the Hilton Honors app, or unlocking your room with a digital key. This one? Nothing. There are no stay-based incentives beyond the basic structure.

That’s probably by design. Summer is a peak time for leisure travel, while business travel typically slows down. So Hilton doesn’t have to work very hard to fill rooms. This promo feels like a placeholder more than anything, and is not expected to drive behavior.

It’s Also Poorly Timed

Another oddity? This promotion didn’t launch immediately after the last one ended. Hilton’s winter 2025 promo, Double Your Stay, ended on May 1, 2025 — but this Points Plus promotion didn’t pick up until June 1. That’s a full month with no offer at all, right as the summer travel season ramps up. We haven’t seen a promotionless period from Hilton in a while.

A 50% Devaluation Compared to Last Time

When Hilton ran this exact same promotion in early 2024, it awarded 2,000 points per stay, not 1,000. That’s a 50% drop in value, with no clear benefit added. You can see our write-up on that version here.

If you’re staying with Hilton anyway, by all means, register and get what you can. But if you were hoping for a lucrative summer promotion, this one’s unlikely to move the needle.

Final Thought

Hilton Honors usually offers reliable (if not flashy) promotions to earn bonus points throughout the year. But with this version of “Points Plus,” the return is so low that it feels like an afterthought. When a promotion doesn’t really benefit short stays or longer ones — and skips the usual app or resort incentives — it’s hard to figure out who it’s really for, aside from Hilton’s accounting team.
