How To Book a Day Use Hotel Room (And Which Chains Let You Do It Online)

by joeheg

When you think about booking a hotel room, you probably imagine checking in late afternoon and staying overnight. But that’s not always the type of stay travelers need.

Sometimes you arrive early in a city and can’t check into your accommodations yet. Or you have a long layover and want to nap, shower, or catch up on emails. Maybe you’re checking out in the morning, but your flight isn’t until 10 p.m. These are all great use cases for a day use room—a hotel room you book for a few hours during the day.

I’ve booked these kinds of rooms before using third-party sites like HotelsByDay, but they often don’t show availability until shortly before your stay. What many travelers don’t realize is that most major hotel chains now let you book day use rooms directly through their websites—and that can come with advantages like loyalty points, elite perks, and guaranteed access.

Here’s how to book a day room through the official websites of Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Accor, and Wyndham.

Booking a Day Room With Hyatt

Hyatt offers day-use rooms on its website, but you’ll need to use a special booking code to see them.

  • Visit Hyatt.com
  • Enter your destination
  • Choose the date of your stay for check-in
  • Click “Special Rates” and enter code DAYUSE under “Corporate or Group Code”
  • Search to see available properties offering a “Day Stay” rate

Booking a Day Room With Hilton

Hilton makes it incredibly easy to book a day-use room—no promo codes required.

  • Go to Hilton.com
  • Enter your destination
  • Select the same date for check-in and check-out
  • Click search—if a day-use rate is available, it will appear in the results

Booking a Day Room With Marriott

Marriott supports day-use bookings, but the search experience isn’t very polished.

  • Go to Marriott.com
  • Enter your destination
  • Choose the date of your stay for check-in
  • In the “Special Rates” box, enter promo code ZDY under “Corporate / Promo / SET#”
  • Search—but be aware that not all participating hotels are filtered, so you may need to click into several listings to find one offering a “Day Use” rate

Day Use rates are generally available from 9am to 5pm and are sometimes offered at a discount from overnight stays.

Booking a Day Room With Accor

Accor offers one of the easiest ways to find a day-use hotel room—complete with its own landing page.

  • Go to Accor’s day use portal
  • Enter your destination and date
  • Browse available properties and pick the time window that suits your needs

Accor also explicitly confirms that guests booking day-use rooms can earn loyalty points and use all regular hotel services during their stay. Brands include Sofitel, Novotel, Ibis, Pullman, and more.

Booking a Day Room With Wyndham

Wyndham promotes day-use rooms through its “Work from Wyndham” campaign—essentially a workspace-style day stay.

These rooms may include work-friendly amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, desk space, and complimentary beverages. You may need to dig into individual listings for availability and terms.

What About IHG?

IHG (which includes Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, and others) does not currently offer day-use bookings through its website. If you want to book a room for the day at an IHG property, your best bet is to call the hotel directly to see if they offer a half-day or workspace rate.

Final Thought

Being able to book day rooms in advance—rather than waiting until the last minute through a third-party service—is a significant advantage for travelers. Even better, booking directly through a hotel chain’s website may let you earn points and even use elite benefits.

Whether you’re recovering from a red-eye, prepping for a long-haul flight, or just need a quiet spot to work for the afternoon, day-use hotel rooms are more accessible than ever.

Just be sure to read the fine print (some rates are nonrefundable) and book early if you’re staying near a busy airport—those day-use rooms can fill up quickly.
