Virgin Voyages Brings Back Discounted Sailings You Can Book With Virgin Points

by joeheg

Before Virgin Voyages let members book any cruise using Virgin Points, they tested the waters with limited-time offers on select sailings. Those early promotions offered unusually high value for Virgin Red or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members — sometimes north of a penny per point.

Today, you can use Virgin Points to pay for nearly any Virgin Voyages sailing. The tradeoff? The value typically runs between 0.7¢ and 1.0¢ per point, as we covered in our earlier post.

Now Virgin Red is reviving its more generous option — a sale on specific voyages at reduced point prices.

Discounted Sailings Available Now

Here’s what’s currently on offer through Virgin Red:

  • 6-night Miami to San Juan — from 160,000 points (sailing November 2, 2025)
  • 5-night Riviera Maya — from 190,000 points (sailings November 16 and December 14, 2025)
  • 6-night San Juan to Barbados & the St. Isles — from 190,000 points (sailing November 29, 2025)
  • 5-night Dominican Daze — from 195,000 points (sailing December 5, 2025)

All point bookings are for Central Sea Terrace cabins on the “Essential” fare. That’s important, since Virgin recently rolled out a lower-priced “Basic” option that omits several inclusions — so these redemptions are for the mid-level, not the stripped-down fare.

How the Value Stacks Up

To see whether these point prices are worthwhile, let’s compare them to cash rates:

The December 14 Riviera Maya cruise is currently priced around $2,100 for a Sea Terrace cabin.

The San Juan to Barbados & the St. Isles sailing (Nov 29–Dec 5, 2025) goes for about $2,280.

Those prices already reflect Virgin Voyages’ current limited-time sale, which lowers cash fares. When comparing the point redemptions against those discounted prices, you’re still getting roughly 1.1¢ to 1.2¢ per point. If you compare the value against the regular (non-sale) fares, the redemption value would be even higher. Either way, it’s a meaningful improvement over the typical 0.7¢ per point value seen on standard redemptions.

Note: The cash and points prices shown above were accurate at the time of publication, but Virgin Voyages and Virgin Red use dynamic pricing, so rates may fluctuate over time.

What’s Not Included

One key change: Virgin now breaks out gratuities (“tips”) from cruise fares. When booking with points, those must be paid separately in cash. Still, with these limited-time rates, the redemptions are among the better-value ways to use Virgin Points in 2025.

Final Thoughts

It’s great to see Virgin Red bringing back these targeted sales — they offer a much stronger value proposition for Virgin Points collectors. And with Virgin Points transferable from nearly every major credit card program, topping up your balance is easy.

Virgin says that new discounted sailings will appear regularly as pricing updates dynamically, so it’s worth checking the Virgin Red site often if you’re interested in a future voyage.
