When I wrote my review of the Hyatt Regency Danang, I realized I had too many pictures to include in a single post. I decided to limit that post to be about checking in and the room. While the room was great, we didn’t spend much time in it. We did take a significant amount of time walking around the vast property.
The huge resort has 375 rooms spread over several buildings and accommodations including 198 guestrooms and suites, 160 one-to-three-bedroom residences and 22 villas with private pools. The entire property is set along a stretch of beach rivaling any I’ve seen.
There are plenty of ways to enjoy the beach. The Hyatt offers access to bodyboards, kayaks and surfboards.
There’s also an area with several hammocks, which Sharon enjoyed (Note from Sharon: which I enjoyed IMMENSELY. There, I fixed it for you, Dear) while I climbed nearby Marble Mountain.
The Hyatt Regency has an on-site spa with 10 treatment rooms and salon services. We didn’t get to try any of their services during our short visit.
A grocery store on the property sells the basics to guests staying in the residences with kitchens. It appears the necessities consist of cereal, snacks, soda and beer. 🙂
The main pool complex is huge and stretches from one side of the property to the other. There were plenty of inflatables, from one-person floaties to a four-person raft.
There’s also a water slide for the kids and those who are kids at heart.
The Instagrammable photo of the hotel is connected to the pool. You can float past when traveling from one side of the pool to the other.
Next to the pool is the Pool House restaurant.
We had dinner here the first night of our stay and returned for lunch the next day. This is where I tried my first (but not my last) Vietnamese hamburger.
The Green House is an all-day dining location. It’s also the site of the morning breakfast buffet. FYI, breakfast service can get busy and the hotel provides a guide of expected wait times depending on when you arrive.
The restaurant has several sections but we sat in the sunroom for our two mornings. It was removed from the hectic buffet and was a nice way to start the morning.
The food selection was extensive offering authentic Vietnamese dishes and other Asian selections, including Korean and Indian, as well as Western cuisine, and vegetarian and vegan options. I liked that they had a Vietnamese Iced Coffee station.
In the evening, we stopped by the lobby bar, Terasse. As we visited early before heading to dinner, we hit happy hour with 2-for-1 drink specials. The bar also has live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 PM until 9:30 PM.
We were content to sit outside next to the faux fireplaces.
Later in the evening, the hotel set up a projector and showed black and white movies on the wall. However, not all of the selections were silent movies; without subtitles, it was hard to understand what was happening.
Was there anything wrong with the Hyatt Regency Danang?
No hotel is 100% perfect, and there are some downsides to staying at the Hyatt Regency Danang. The main negative is that the hotel isn’t close to anything. It’s equidistant from Danang and Hoi An, which means you’re a 15-20 minute drive from either location. The only thing you’re close to is the Marble Mountains, and while that’s a nice visit for a few hours, it’s not the only reason to visit the area.
The hotel offers a shuttle to Hoi An, but it’s not free and only operates on a limited schedule. You’d probably be better off taking a taxi.
There was also a problem with the plumbing where the sink faucet leaked when you turned it all the way. We didn’t complain because we’re not the type to ask for compensation for every little thing but we found out that other rooms had the same issue. On closer inspection, I saw the hotel tried to fix the problem by using a large amount of silicone tape around the threads, but it didn’t help.
Final Thoughts
Looking back at my pictures, I still love this hotel. It was such an unexpected gem and a major shift from the Park Hyatt Saigon we had just left. I’ve also been informed this property treats Globalist members well, with suite upgrades, and that the club lounge features a breakfast buffet, evening drinks, and canapes.
If you are in Vietnam, I’d strongly suggest you set aside a few days to visit Danang and stay at the Hyatt Regency.

Globalist: I did receive a suite upgrade. The club lounge had a great breakfast as well as evening snack and alcohol including some creative cocktails. Also access to a separate club pool (away from the beach). Check the season and climate conditions before planning travel – some months are cold, rainy, and the surf too rough to swim.
