Barclays is stepping up its game with Simple Earn, a fresh new perk that lets targeted cardholders earn statement credits for in-store and online shopping at featured retailers. Launching November 21, 2024, the program is exclusive to Barclaycard members and seems to be kicking off with the Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite Mastercard®.
Here’s how it works: Each week, eligible cardholders will receive an email detailing the latest Simple Earn offers. Just shop at the featured merchants and use your Barclaycard, and you’ll automatically earn statement credits—no portal or extra steps required. It’s a convenient way to stack savings while still earning your regular card rewards.
Similarities and Differences with Amex Offers
If you’re familiar with Amex Offers, you’ll notice some similarities. Both programs reward cardholders with statement credits for spending at featured retailers. However, there’s a key difference: Simple Earn doesn’t require registration for each offer. With Amex Offers, you typically need to add deals to your card first, but Barclays is keeping it simple—you shop and save.
This approach also sets it apart from shopping portals like TopCashback. While portals require you to start your shopping session through their website to earn cashback, Simple Earn works automatically when you use your card at eligible merchants. It’s less effort with similar rewards.
An Unusual Push for a Discontinued Card
What’s particularly interesting is that Barclays is putting significant effort into the Barclaycard Arrival Plus™, a card that’s been discontinued for new applicants for years. It’s not often you see a bank revamping benefits for legacy cardholders, which raises questions about Barclays’ broader plans.
Could this be part of a strategy to re-enter the travel card market? Rumors have hinted at a new travel-focused card with transfer partners, and a refreshed lineup would align with their ongoing tweaks to rewards programs.
What to Watch
- Will Simple Earn expand to other Barclays cards? There’s no word on whether cards like the JetBlue or Wyndham co-branded cards will join. If so, this could add value across their portfolio.
- Which retailers will be featured? With offers applying to both in-store and online purchases, the partner list will determine how valuable Simple Earn is for cardholders.
- Is a new Barclays travel card on the horizon? Barclays already allows points transfers from the Arrival Plus to programs like British Airways Executive Club and Aeroplan, though at subpar rates. A new card with better transfer options could compete with other premium travel cards.
Final Thoughts
For now, Simple Earn gives targeted Arrival Plus cardholders an effortless way to save, offering a practical perk just in time for the holiday shopping season. And if Barclays does re-enter the travel rewards market, this program could be a solid addition to a refreshed card lineup.
What do you think? Does Simple Earn look like a winner, or are you waiting to see if Barclays rolls out something bigger for travel enthusiasts? Let me know!

In spite of several attempts to get rid of them, I can’t keep Barclay’s shopping prompts from popping up when I’m checking out on my phone. It’s a lot easier to add them to your browser than to get rid of them. I don’t see the “travel card with earn” connection as much as Barclays using “simple earn” to spread their claws into more and more shopping sites.
