It’s a story that’s gone from triumph to tragedy and is on its way to triumph again.
Bungalow Key Largo, billed as the first all-inclusive resort in the Florida Keys, opened in December, 2018. An adults-only luxury waterfront property just an hour south of Miami, it was destined for greatness. After all, it had a 4.5 star rating on Trip Advisor and had gotten the attention of the likes of TravelPulse, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and other travel-related social media outlets.
Unfortunately, less than half a year after this brand-new resort opened, it caught on fire.
Of course, the first thing any owner says is that they will rebuild, but so many times they just…don’t.
That’s not the case for Bungalows Key Largo.
Thankfully, no one was injured during the May blaze, but the fire caused a complete structural loss of the main building that housed the Fish Tales restaurant, Hemingway bar, the spa and lobby. Estimates were that there were about $3.2M in damages and the resort, which had been open for less than 5 months, immediately closed for an indefinite amount of time.
Welp, we just got word that Bungalows Key Largo is almost ready to reopen (on December 19, as per a press release), and the main building is planned to be a near-exact replica of the space that was damaged in the fire.
From Google: “Comprising 135 bungalows set on 12 acres overlooking the sea, this upscale, couples-only resort is a 15-minute walk from cruises on the African Queen and 3 miles from Dolphins Plus Bayside.
“Elegant, wood-fronted bungalows feature verandas with soaking tubs and sea views, plus private patios with Adirondack chairs. They also have bathrooms with rain showers.
“Watersports equipment and yoga classes are free. Other amenities include an infinity pool with ocean views, in addition to a gym, and a spa with a sauna and a steam room. There are also 6 restaurants and bars, including a Tiki bar and a pool bar, plus a program of entertainments.”
The resort is currently accepting reservations for late December 2019 and beyond. Check out their website for more info.
