While the last thing on many people’s minds right now is traveling, the desire to get out and explore is undeniable. Even if you’ve been under a lockdown order for just a few weeks, the idea of walking on the beach sounds unbelievable.
I know the struggle. We just went to an almost empty CityWalk at Universal Orlando to catch a glimpse of the theme park that’s almost in our backyard. Sharon and I are theme park people, not beach people. But we know many people who live for the beach.
The IHG hotel group must not know that because they just sent me an offer for a free night at their beach properties in the Southeast.
Sure this makes sense because states in the southern part of the U.S. has been some of the first to reopen. Hotels at the Florida beaches have shown huge increases in occupancy rates. Since beaches are one of the places that have shown to be safer to visit than other locations, they’re becoming a popular place to visit. Just make sure to stay safe while you’re there.
Here are the basic rules of the promotion:
IHG® Rewards Club members that book at least 3 consecutive nights* at any participating IHG® Hotel or Resort in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina or Alabama, can enjoy an extra night on us! Plus, the more you stay, the more you get on us. It’s our way of saying thank you. And don’t forget, if your plans change, you can cancel worry-free at least 24 hours in advance of your stay.
The list of locations is mostly in Florida but also includes Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia.
- Daytona Beach, FL
- Florida Keys
- Florida Panhandle
- Fort Lauderdale, FL
- Fort Myers, FL
- Gulf Shores, AL
- Hilton Head, SC
- Jacksonville Beach, FL
- Melbourne/Titusville, FL
- Miami/Hialeah, FL
- Myrtle Beach, SC
- Naples, FL
- Orange Beach, AL
- Sarasota/Bradenton, FL
- Savannah, GA
- Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL
- Vero Beach, FL
- West Palm Beach/Boca Raton, FL
There are a few locations on the list where you can do plenty besides the beach, like in Savannah or Miami. FYI, Miami Beach isn’t even open yet. You can follow the reopening of the area on this website.
You need to book by May 28th, but you can stay any time through the end of July. So maybe we’d consider a trip to Key West in July and want to stay at one of the Kimpton properties in a private bungalow.
Plenty of space for me to distance from others while sitting at the pool.
Rates aren’t cheap but Kimpton properties usually are more expensive. This is probably the only time when you’ll see prices this low and a free night reducing them 25% more.
The generous IHG COVID-19 cancellation policy is in effect for these bookings, so you’ll be able to cancel without any penalty up until 1 day before your arrival. The offer also seems to make the fourth night free, regardless of the cost of the other nights so there may be a way to make your stay a little less expensive if your dates are flexible.
To get the special “Get An Extra Night On Us” rate, you need to be an IHG Rewards Club member and book through the offer’s home page.
Initially, I blew this offer off but I can see there might be some value. Even if you’re sitting in your hotel room, at the pool, or playing at the beach for an extended weekend, that sure beats sitting around the house rearranging your desk for the 20th time. This reinforces my thought that road trips and long weekends are going to be the way that people get back into traveling.
