Being a television personality can have its ups and downs. One day you have your own reality TV show on cable, and the next day you’re delivering airport luggage.
Such is the case of June “Mama June” Shannon, the matriarch of the Shannon/Thompson family. She and her family were showcased in Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, a car wreck of a reality TV show that aired on TLC from 2012 to 2014.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was a spin off of another TLC show, Toddlers and Tiaras (2009-2016), which showcased childrens’ beauty pageants. One of the children on the show, Alana Thompson, had a big personality and she and her family were eventually given their own show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Boo Boo was taken off the air after the second season, when Mama June was found to be in a relationship with a convicted sex offender.
Mama June got her own TV show in 2017, Mama June: From Not to Hot, after she underwent gastric bypass and lost 300 pounds. Continued production on that show, broadcast on We TV, was delayed when June and her boyfriend were arrested in March 2019. They were both charged with felony possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
After her first court appearance in October 2019, Shannon’s trial had been scheduled for April 2020 but was then delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. So what does one do in a case like that? Go back to filming a TV show, of course! Shannon’s program, by the way, has now been appropriately renamed Mama June: Family Crisis (gee, ya think?).
As a teaser for the first episode of the season, the show producer asked Mama June about her new job:
Producer: “I heard you’re delivering luggage from airports in the middle of the night.”
June: “It’s not really in the middle of the night. Well, it can be. Say for instance you’re at this airport right here. Say for instance all these b***hes have been snowed in or whatever. And they come to, like, these hotels and they want to know, ‘Where’s my God**** luggage?’ That’s where the companies call us.”
I’m so glad to hear that Mama June is gainfully employed.
This page has a video with the above exchange.
