This Quote Sums Up 2020 For Everyone

by joeheg

Today I sent a text to one of our friends about our possible travel plans for 2021. We sent dueling texts about the travel plans that have been ruined because of the coronavirus. They are diehard cruisers and our trip to Japan and Tokyo Disneyland was postponed for at least 12 months.

Her reply summed up almost everyone’s feelings for 2020.

So ready for this to be over.

We’re both on the same page. This will only get under control when everyone does what’s required. If that means wearing masks or not going to large gatherings or mandatory testing before travel, so be it. We all just want to be able to travel again.

No matter the number of people that feel that wearing a mask is an infringement on their personal freedoms or even that bars and restaurants should operate as they did before. Temporary closures of those activities could mean that I might be able to see a movie or a Broadway show sooner rather than later. That’s a sacrifice that we’re both willing to make.

So when you see the people who aren’t traveling around the world or who are happy to stay off cruise lines for the time being, don’t hate them. Maybe they’re doing the things they feel are necessary to get us back to where we were. Because before we get a vaccine, testing and therapeutics, limiting travel and social distancing are the best weapons we have
