I noticed something interesting today when checking our American Express accounts. I was going through our cards and seeing if the rules about adding authorized users had changed (yeah, this is some of the glamorous behind the scenes work that goes into running a travel website).
At first, I checked Sharon’s AMEX Blue Business Plus card.
As I expected to see, I was brought to a page to add up to five additional cards to my account for no charge.
I then went to check on the AMEX Green Card.
Same thing when I checked the Bonvoy Brilliant, Hilton Surpass AMEX and the Everyday Preferred card. The last one is strange because we already have an authorized user on that card.
I went to my account. I was able to add additional users to my Delta Business Gold AMEX and my Business Green AMEX bur not to any of my personal cards, EXCEPT my discontinued Marriott Bonvoy AMEX.
I wonder if anyone else is having this problem? Has AMEX made it even more difficult for you to add additional users to their line of personal cards? If so, what information are they asking when you call in?
Is it pessimistic to think this is yet another move by the AMEX RAT to stomp out a non-existent type of fraud that only ends up making things for regular cardholders more complicated.

In a move to boost revenue from credit card services, the AMEX RAT has determined that any spending on an AMEX card earning points, miles or cash is abusive. Therefore, all AMEX card transactions, except annual card fees, will be blocked and declined in the future. Starting in 2021 annual AMEX card fees will not be refundable, said AMEX Vice President, Ima Naste Rodent.
