The CEO of Qantas has announced that the Australian airline will require vaccines for all passengers on international flights.
According to Traveller, CEO Alan Joyce said, “Qantas will have a policy that internationally we’ll only be carrying vaccinated passengers.”
He continued that the requirement will help “show that you’re flying safe and getting into those countries.”
The airline had announced in mid-August that it was requiring its pilots, cabin crew and airport workers to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 15. Other Qantas staff have a deadline of March 31, 2022
Multiple other airlines around the world have also announced requirements for all of their employees to receive COVID vaccines. However few have required it of their passengers.
Australia has already revealed its hopes to begin travel bubbles with countries such as the U.S., New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and the U.K. by the end of this year. This is provided that they reach their goal of 80% of eligible Australians are fully vaccinated. As of August 28th, 34.2% were fully vaccinated and 57.5% had received their first dose. As of Sept. 12, 42.3% were fully vaccinated and 67.4% had received at least 1 dose.
