Joe and I love to stay at “different” places. From the hotel in London that used to be a train station, to Dromoland Castle in Ireland, to the hotel in Chicago that used to be home to the New York Life Insurance company, the odder the better. BTW, this included the capsule hotel that Joe promised we can FINALLY stay at when we go to Japan again next year.
Anyway, because we tend to use points & miles for a lot of our trips, we don’t have as many opportunities to stay at some places that just look AMAZINGLY different. Like these…
Oscar Meyer Weinermobile
You might have seen the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile in your travels (there was one that used to be parked in a long term storage place about a mile from our house. It was there for YEARS and then just disappeared one day), but I bet you’ve never stayed in one.
Welp, Oscar Meyer is changing that because they’re offering one of their Chicago-based Weinermobiles as an Airbnb experience.
You know we had to go big for #NationalHotDogDay! So, we turned America’s favorite 🌭 on wheels into a place to rest your head. Set a reminder for next Wednesday, when booking opens on @Airbnb and become one of the first guests in the @Wienermobile! 👏 https://t.co/wZEyAULdk5 pic.twitter.com/EkfZBAfoiz

Heads up though – you can only book it for one night and only the first three nights of August are available. Reservations will be sslloowwllyy rolled out on July 24, on a first-come-first-served basis.

*** Thanks to Kat O. for the heads up about this!
Giant Teepees
Wigwam Motels (a.k.a. Wigwam Villages) is a motel chain that was built during the 1930s and 1940s. The rooms are all built in the shape of teepees but the term “wigwams” stuck. There were a total of 7 Wigwam villages (including one in Orlando, whoop whoop!), although only 3 are still in existence (not Orlando, BTW. It’s now the site of a Vacation Lodge in a seedy part of town. You can see it from I-4). Our friend Dana went to 2 of them. Click here for more info!
*** Thanks to Dana for sharing her photos and stories!
Giant Tequila Barrels
Are you a tequila fan? I mean, a REAL tequila fan? Then what better place to stay overnight than in a tequila barrel that’s been converted into a hotel room?
The Matices Hotel de Barricas, located in the town of Tequila (of course), Mexico, claims to be the first hotel located in a tequila factory (in this case, La Cofradia distillery).
They have over 20 different barrel rooms to choose from, with either king- or queen-sized beds and full amenities including WiFi, A/C, rain showers and private bathrooms. They’re even pet-friendly!
Spongebob Squarepants’ Pineapple Under The Sea
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? *Add Your Name* SquarePants! Well, OK, you won’t really be under the sea. But you’ll be just a short walk away from it, and that counts, right? And hello, LIVING IN A PINEAPPLE!
Yup, in mid-2016, Nickelodeon built the Nick Resort Punta Cana ( a Karisma Gourmet Inclusive® Resort) in the Dominican Republic and besides the entire complex being Nickelodeon themed, they included a one-of-a-kind SpongeBob SquarePants themed villa.
We’ve actually written about this one before – click here for all the details!
A Giant Beagle
Located in Cottonwood, Idaho, the Dog Bark Park Inn Bed and Breakfast is perfect for the dog lover in your life, or just for people who are into kitsch. From their website:
Being in the doghouse is a good thing at Dog Bark Park Inn Bed & Breakfast! Sleep inside the world’s biggest beagle with all the comforts of home. This bed & breakfast is a dog outside. Inside, it is a charming escape from the ordinary – from the twenty-six carved dogs on the queen headboard to a cozy loft room in the dog’s head, to dog-shaped cookies on the pillow. Breakfast includes home-baked pastries, Prairie’s Best Fruited Granola, fruit, cheeses, yogurts, bagels, and more!
Winner of the 2016 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, the Dog Bark Park Inn B&B has full amenities and is available from April to October.
*** Many thanks to Janey F. for the heads up about this B&B! Dobby loves you!
