Buc-ee's04Buc-ee’s is a chain of roadside gas and convenience stores located in Texas and I just LOVE them! So I am THRILLED it was announced the other day that they are planning to open their first location outside of Texas, in Daytona, Florida! You guys, that’s only, like, an hour and a half from here! SQUEEEEE!!!

To be honest, neither Joe nor I are even sure how we originally discovered Buc-ee’s. We’ve been visiting Schlitterbahn Water Parks & Resort in New Braunfels TX nearly every year for a good decade or more and when the Buc-ee’s opened on Interstate 35 in Buc-ee's05New Braunfels in 2012, we think we just happened to notice it (and really, you almost can’t help but notice it…besides the amusing roadside billboard signs for miles and miles before you reach the place [a’la the “Pedro” signs for South of The Border], it is a HUGE gas station [120 pumps!] and 68,000 square foot building, open 24/7, just off the highway) and decided to see what it was all about.  I’ve been hooked ever since.

Buc-ee's08I really don’t know why I love Buc-ee’s so much. It could be as simple as the fact that it rhymes with Stuckey’s (another chain of roadside convenience stores, one that has been around since the 1930s), of which I have vague, pleasant memories of visiting during family road trips when I was very, very young (Stuckey’s logo also has a lot of red and yellow in it). Perhaps it’s because I associate Buc-ee’s with going to Buc-ee's07Schlitterbahn, which are fun annual getaways for Joe and I. Maybe it’s because they seem to have EVERYTHING – fuel, cigarettes, tobacco, chips, drinks, soft drinks, a deli, fudge (with unlimited free samples!), jerky (also with unlimited free samples!), Texas-themed specialty gifts and food, etc. It could be because I think the Buc-ee’s mascot, Buc-ee the Beaver, is so darned cute. I dunno. But I will admit to bordering on the obsessive about Buc-ee’s, as exampled by, not only visiting the store at least twice per 4-day vacation to the New Braunfels area, but also my owning a half dozen Buc-ee’s shirts [including themed Christmas and July 4th ones], 3 Buc-ee’s Christmas ornaments, a few Buc-ee’s magnets on our fridge, 2 Buc-ee’s coffee mugs, 2 sets of Buc-ee’s pajamas (one black, one red), our dog’s Buc-ee’s toy, a Buc-ee’s plaque on the wall of our computer room, Buc-ee’s bottle openers on both Joe’s and my keychains, and OMG have you ever tasted Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets? It’s like CRACK, I tell ya! So yeah, I am very excited about them coming to Daytona! And just for that, plus their being voted the cleanest bathrooms in the country, so should you!

Have you ever been to Buc-ee’s? Which one(s)?
