Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Ben (Lucky) from One Mile At A Time wrote about his dad’s then-upcoming first flight on Southwest and how he needed a little hand holding to understand how he’d get his seat (his dad sounds adorable, BTW). Anyway, it kind of reminded me of this (equally adorable) guy who thought he had the use of his new camcorder all together…but didn’t ;-).
- When you build a theme park, sometimes they’re very successful and run for decades (check out this report of Jackson NJ’s Great Adventure theme park before it became a part of Six Flags), and others are abandoned and sit, derelict, for what seems like forever (case in point, Nara Dreamland, in Japan. He’s our report of “it’s so bad that it’s good,” from the year before it closed). It looks like after 15 years, the remains of Six Flags New Orleans are finally going to be torn down.
- Our friends at The Points of Life reported on the things they saw during their visit to a cemetery in New Orleans not long ago. It brought back memories of when Joe and I walked around the Key West Cemetery a few years ago.
- We’ve seen several houses from movies and TV shows available as Airbnbs. The Steel Magnolias house. The castle from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Welp, you can now rent Charlie and Bella Swan’s house from Twilight, too. I’m sure all you teen vampire fans are happy to hear that!
- Gary from View From The Wing wrote about the two employees in Wondros’ editorial department made a plane out of recycled lunch wrappers from the company’s “Falafel Fridays,” and it really flew! It kinda reminded me of the repurposing that happened when some Delta employees made a BBQ out of an old plane. 😉
- Ed from Pizza in Motion wrote how his seating assignment somehow disappeared on a recent flight. They were able to work it all out, but if you compare that to the passenger who boarded her plane, only to discover that her seat just flat out didn’t exist, it kinda makes you wonder who was the biggest loser, y’know?
- Let’s put it out there in the open; Ryanair is just awful. Here’s the best complaint letter ever written to Ryanair, and here’s Matthew from Live And Let’s Fly’s recent tale of woe when flying on the airline.
