If it’s not points and miles, or how someone was #bonvoyed, resort fees seem to be THE thing people are talking about when it comes to hotels.
You can use a website like ResortFeeChecker.com to find out whether or not a hotel you’ve picked charges a resort fee and, if so, how much.
But what if you’re going to be in a city but don’t have a specific hotel in mind and would just like a list of places that don’t charge resort fees so you can search that way, instead of searching for a resort fee for every place you consider?
That’s a little more difficult.
If you search around, you may find some shortlists, such as for hotels in Las Vegas or Key West. As per our friends at KillResortFees.com, there are 15 hotels in Vegas that don’t charge resort fees. There are a few dozen in Key West that don’t charge any hidden fees like that.
However, KillResortFees.com is, understandably, more focused on fighting the hotels that do charge resort fees, so most of their lists of cities include the hotels to avoid, rather than advertising the ones that don’t charge these extra fees. Which still doesn’t help a whole lot in looking for a list of hotels that don’t charge resort fees.
But while I was Googling one day, I found an AMAZING list – over 200 hotels in NYC that don’t charge resort fees. What’s more, it’s being updated whenever a new hotel stops (or starts) including a resort fee, as well as when a previously unknown (or possibly a brand new) hotel is discovered to charge one or not.
Where is this wonderful list? TripAdvisor.
I’ll grant you that I’m not super-duper trusting of TripAdvisor. You might get a certain flavor of a hotel from reading its reviews, but I don’t consider it to be the “be-all, end-all,” either. But this list is in their forums and is not a review. You also can tell that the author of the list, LittleBiffOne, has put a WHOLE LOT of work into said list.
Is it perfect? No. There are over 700 hotels in NYC, and roughly 2/3 of them (so figure about 470ish) are in Manhattan. As of this writing, LittleBiffOne’s list has lists of 189 hotels that charge resort fees and 214 that do not. That’s 403. So they’re still missing about 15% of Manhattan hotels. But even so, it’s a pretty well-rounded list.

I like that LittleBiffOne explains how the list is updated, where other references can be found, and what the future looks like with 64 Manhattan hotels tentatively scheduled to open through the end of 2021.
Again, it’s not perfect. But it’s a decent way to have an 85% complete list of hotels in Manhattan that do or don’t charge a resort fee. If nothing else, it’s better than a kick in the head. 😉
