Marriott Plans To Tighten Cancellation Policy In July

Marriott’s cancellation policy for upcoming hotel stays has evolved since the advent of COVID-19.

On March 17, their cancellation policy was:

For all Marriott International hotels world-wide, we are implementing the following policies:

That policy stayed roughly the same, albeit with some minor tweaks here and there, except the date would change:

There admittedly may have been other of these types of changes that I missed, but you get the gist.

Now it looks as if they’re going to tighten the reins.

According to an industry news publication, Marriott plans to update its cancellation policy, which only applies through July 5, on July 6. This newest policy will advise that guests will be able to cancel new bookings for stays between July 6 and Sept. 30, 2020, up to 24 hours before the day of arrival without incurring a penalty.

Also, guests with pre-paid reservations had been allowed to cancel without penalty in the last few months. That’s apparently changing too, and those guests will now have to follow individual hotel policy rate rules.

Existing restrictions, such as those for group bookings, will continue to apply.
