There’s no explaining who or what you’ve followed during the pandemic. Maybe you’ve started following Wendy’s for the snark even if you’ve never eaten there. Possibly you’re following the TSA on Twitter to see what they’ll say about items they’ve confiscated at checkpoints.
One random Twitter feed I’ve been following is the one from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. It’s not exciting but I get to see Chicago’s COVID-19 advisories. Much like New York, Chicago has been setting its own COVID-19 quarantine guidelines during the pandemic. In a nutshell, if an area was suffering from an equal or worse number of cases, travelers from those areas were expected to quarantine if they returned to Chicago.
The most recent map was a bit disturbing but not surprising.
49 out of 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, were all in Orange status. For the City of Chicago, that means residents are suggested to avoid travel, and those returning from those areas (pretty much everywhere) are expected to be subject to either:
- 10-day quarantine
- Pre-arrival negative test result (no longer than 72 hours prior to arrival) with strict masking, social distancing and avoidance of in-person gatherings
The only state that’s exempt from these guidelines is Hawaii. If they go there, residents are suggested to avoid non-essential travel and maintain strict masking and social distancing upon return. Does anyone else find it funny that the only state where travel is not restricted is the same one with the most stringent restrictions on visitors???? Hmmmmm…
Until vaccinations become more prevalent, cases begin to drop, and the US gets the pandemic under a level of control, restrictions like this will remain in place.
