It Just Got Easier To Get Around Chicago O’Hare Airport

by joeheg

Chicago’s O’Hare Airport (ORD) is a massive complex with 213 gates covering Terminals 1, 2, 3 & 5 (here’s why there’s no Terminal 4 at O’Hare). Passengers have many ways to get between terminals. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 have pedestrian connections on the secure side of the airport. That’s important if you have a connecting flight because you don’t have to go back through a TSA Security checkpoint.

However things have been complicated if you needed to get to/from Terminal 5, as there’s no airside connection to the rest of the airport. To get between Terminal 5 and Terminals 1, 2, and 3, you had to take the landside Airport Transit System (ATS).

Finally, as of March 1st, leaving the secure airside zone is no longer necessary, as the O’Hare Terminal Transfer Bus is back.

The Terminal Transfer Bus runs every 15 minutes between 11:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Two bus routes transport passengers in each direction. One bus runs from Terminal 1, Gate B1, and the other stops at Terminal 3 gates G17 and K20. The Terminal 5 location is located at Gate M13.

CDA Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee commented, “After having to suspend this service due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Terminal 5 construction, I’m happy to say that we’re again ready to whisk connecting passengers from our core terminals to the newly renovated and expanded T5.”

Easy. There was a Terminal 4 but it was repurposed many years ago.

And it was a disaster day 1. Landed to that and it took every bit of 30 minutes to transfer where as with transfer on train with TSA pre (no clear) was only about 10-15.
