Amex Platinum Cardholders Must Re-Enroll For Hertz President’s Circle Status

by joeheg

If you receive Hertz President’s Circle status through an American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to enroll again to keep it.

American Express recently emailed me with the subject line, “Re-enrollment required for your Hertz Gold+ Status benefit.” According to the message, Platinum Card Members currently using this benefit must complete a new enrollment process by December 31, 2026.

That deadline is still several months away, but this is the type of task that’s easy to forget. Since the enrollment only takes a few minutes, it makes sense to take care of it now.

Why Amex Platinum Cardholders Need To Re-Enroll

American Express says it has introduced a “new and improved enrollment experience” for the Hertz status benefit. As a result, existing cardholders need to submit a new enrollment request, even if President’s Circle status is already showing in their Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account.

To re-enroll:

  1. Log in to your American Express account.
  2. Go to the Benefits section.
  3. Find the Car Rental Privileges tile.
  4. Select Learn More.
  5. Select Enroll Now.
  6. Enter your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards number and accept the terms.

American Express says enrollment can take up to 72 hours to process. You should receive another communication once the enrollment has been confirmed.

What Happens If You Don’t Re-Enroll?

According to the email, Hertz may remove the American Express Customer Discount Program (CDP) code from your Hertz profile if you don’t complete the process by December 31, 2026. You may also lose the President’s Circle status provided through your Platinum Card.

You should still be able to restore the benefit afterward by completing the enrollment process, but it’s easier to handle it before anything disappears from your Hertz account—especially if you have an upcoming rental.

What Hertz President’s Circle Status Includes

President’s Circle is the highest published tier of Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. Benefits include a 50% bonus on points earned from qualifying rentals, guaranteed one-car-class upgrades at participating locations, access to the President’s Circle section at Hertz Ultimate Choice locations and a dedicated customer service line.

We’ve previously covered the benefits of Hertz President’s Circle status and the credit cards that provide it.

The American Express Platinum Card also offers additional Hertz benefits when the appropriate Amex Customer Discount Program code is attached to the rental. Those may include discounted rates, a free additional driver and a four-hour grace period when returning a vehicle at participating U.S. locations.

Final Thought

This isn’t a new Hertz benefit or an upgrade to President’s Circle. It’s an administrative change that requires existing Amex Platinum Card Members to re-enroll.

While the deadline isn’t until December 31, 2026, I wouldn’t leave this sitting in my inbox for the rest of the year. Log in to your American Express account, re-register your Hertz number and make sure the benefit remains connected to your account.
