Let’s be honest: most of us enjoy a little harmless gossip now and then.
Psychologists say it helps build social bonds, makes us feel more connected, and even served as a survival tool thousands of years ago by helping people figure out who they could and couldn’t trust.
You expect to hear gossip from friends, coworkers or family.
You probably don’t expect it from the captain of your airplane.
But that’s exactly what happened on an international flight last year.
A TikToker who goes by the handle @ish.bish got more entertainment than he bargained for on an international flight last year, while he heard the drama unfold between an ungrateful passenger and the increasingly disgruntled pilot who just happened to be flying the plane they were on.
The situation began with the pilot announcing on the PA that there was a passenger on board who needed medical care and there was no one on the plane who volunteered to help when they asked if there was a doctor on board. The pilot continued that the plane would have to divert to Saint John in Newfoundland, Canada, so the passenger could receive emergency medical care at the hospital.
The video briefly shows the plane landing, with the ambulances ready for the sick patient.
Two hours later, according to the TikTok video, they were back in the air and the pilot came back on the PA. And he was NOT happy.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” the pilot said, with a French (maybe Quebec?) accent, “You’ll be happy to know, to learn that our passenger, which, we saved her life, she was a bit angry to be offloaded with the aircraft. Ummm…she gave us the finger when leaving the aircraft, and she’s still started being very angry at the hospital. That’s it.”
BOOM!
Here’s the video:
@terminalish Captain wasn’t having it
The video drew more than 2,200 comments, and many of them were almost as entertaining as the pilot’s announcement itself:
- “She gave us the finger” is so much better in a French accent 😂 — FMorris677
- Poor man just needed to vent to whoever would listen 😅😂 — Gabi
- Thanks for making Karen our problem🙄 -Canada — You’re Wrong
- Those Newfie nurses won’t deal with that attitude 😂💀 — AlissaLeöna
- French petty is a vibe — October Forever
- Brilliant – the sharp honesty of the French, softened by Canadian politeness. A savage update, but still… an update 😂 — Mother of 🐈🐈⬛🐈⬛ 🇬🇬 🇨🇦
- New airline rule: the pilot has to give us unrelated tea at least 1x every flight — shotc_
- Oh my god I think I had this pilot coming home from Europe this summer. Same accent and also gave us soooo many non flight related updates and gossip — Erika
To be fair, we only heard one side of the story. We don’t know what the passenger had experienced medically, whether medication or stress affected her reaction, or what happened after she reached the hospital.
Still, if the pilot’s account was accurate, it’s easy to understand why the experience stuck with him.
Pilots usually end a flight by thanking passengers for flying with them and wishing them a pleasant day.
This one apparently decided everyone deserved one last piece of gossip before they headed to baggage claim.
