Four Seasons’ Next Florida Hotel Will Be WHERE? Why?

by joeheg

When you think of Four Seasons, you imagine luxury. This means above-water bungalows in exotic locations. Private jets flying around the world. At the minimum, you’re thinking about an amazing hotel near Disney World where you can see the fireworks from all the theme parks from the hotel rooftop.

That’s why the most recent plans for a Four Seasons hotel in Florida have me questioning the reasons for the development.

The next Four Seasons Hotel in Florida will be in Jacksonville.

We live a few hours’ drive from Jacksonville. In 20 years we’ve only driven there for three reasons:

  • To see Straight No Chaser in concert
  • To see the Rolling Stones
  • To adopt Dobby the poodle (who’s proud to say, “I’M FROM JACKSONVILLE”)

While the project developer, who is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team, previously announced the project, it wasn’t until recently that Four Seasons confirmed the development.

Four Seasons issued a news release saying the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Jacksonville will include 170 rooms and suites, 26 private residences, and four dining rooms and lounges, including a rooftop restaurant and bar. It also will include a marina, a pool bar and grill, and a lobby bar, all accessible to the public.

The hotel will be located as part of the Shipyards development south of TIAA Bank Field and is expected to open in 2026.

From the press release, getting a Four Seasons in Jacksonville appears to be the dream of Jaguar’s owner Shad Khan, who already owns the Four Seasons in Toronto.

Four Seasons is an iconic brand that will redefine Downtown Jacksonville and provide a luxury destination that we have been unable to offer until now,” he said. “Jacksonville, in turn, will offer the new Four Seasons Hotel a spectacular setting on the banks of the St. Johns River and provide our entire community a reason to rally around the Shipyards, the Stadium of the Future and the overall future of Downtown Jacksonville. I’ve said all along that Four Seasons will be a game-changer for Jacksonville, and the change begins now.”

Until now, there wasn’t much around the stadium to mention. It was a place to drive in and drive out, with a boatload of traffic in both directions. However, the location near the St. John’s River is prime for riverside expansion and a luxury resort might be the kickstart it needs.

By population, Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida. But Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach are better known as resort locations. It’s about time they have a luxury hotel.
