Earn 5% Cash Back With Discover at Target & Amazon Until End Of 2023

by joeheg

Discover’s 4th quarter 5% cash back categories are live and they’re just in time for holiday shopping. This year, Discover is again offering 5% back at Amazon.com in addition to purchases from Target stores, Target.com and the Target app.

Every three months, Discover offers a new set of bonus categories where you can earn 5% cash back on your first $1,500 of purchases. That’s up to $75 back.

For the last few years, Amazon has been a recurring category for October-December and it’s great if you need to get some holiday shopping done.

The Amazon category is very broad, including most purchases from the company.

Amazon.com purchases include those made through the Amazon.com checkout, like digital downloads, Amazon Fresh orders, Amazon Local Deals, Amazon Prime subscriptions, and items sold by third party merchants through Amazon.com’s marketplace. This also includes purchases in-store at Amazon Go.

What’s incredible is that Discover cards have no annual fees, so they’re paying you up to $75 to use the card at Amazon and Target. Many people will not have any problems maxing out this offer.

The only reason I’ve passed on this offer in the past is because I’ve received a better offer for Amazon spending by a different card. For example, we just had an offer for 5 Membership Rewards points for Amazon from AMEX. I value Membership Rewards points more than 1 cent each, so I’d use that offer if given a choice.

So 5% back is the baseline. We’ll see if any other banks want to do better.
