Delta SkyMiles offers multiple ways to earn points without flying. You can earn points through the Delta Stays program by staying at partner hotels and renting cars, as well as through the Delta Dining program when dining out. Other ways to earn points include reloading your Starbucks account and using the Lyft rideshare service. These opportunities are in addition to the points earned through using a co-branded credit card. However, there’s another way to earn SkyMiles that I had completely forgotten about.
Ticketmaster
In 2019, Delta SkyMiles partnered with Ticketmaster allowing members to earn bonus points when booking tickets through a dedicated link. Because of COVID and live events going on hiatus for 2020 and part of 2021, I had totally forgotten about this offer. It wasn’t until recently that I realized that the deal is still active, and you can earn Delta SkyMiles when booking tickets with Ticketmaster.
To take advantage of this offer, you need to start your ticket purchases on this website:
https://www.deltaticketmaster.com/
Eligible purchases will earn 1 point per dollar on the ticket price, excluding taxes and additional fees.
When purchasing tickets, remember that you can use a card that pays a bonus for entertainment, like the Citi Custom Cash.
Full Rules For Delta Ticketmaster Offer
Here are the rules for the offer:
Earning Miles: To earn miles, SkyMiles members need to enter their SkyMiles membership number on delta.com/ticketmaster prior to navigating through the link to ticketmaster.com. Only one SkyMiles number can be provided for each purchase transaction. Your SkyMiles number must be entered every time on delta.com/ticketmaster prior to each purchase to qualify for mileage. The SkyMiles account holder must be the same as the Ticketmaster account holder in order to earn miles (Name in both accounts must match).
Eligible Purchases: Standard ticket inventory offered on ticketmaster.com for events taking place in the United States and Canada is eligible for miles as long as Member is originating from delta.com/ticketmaster and enters a valid SkyMiles number. This includes both primary and resale standard ticket inventory. Purchases made for events in international markets, purchases made without first visiting delta.com/ticketmaster, or purchases made or completed on affiliate sites linked-to from ticketmaster.com (including but not limited to Livenation.com, Frontgate.com, Universe.com, Ticketweb.com, TicketsNow.com) will not be eligible for mileage credit.
Standard Mileage Offer: SkyMiles Members are eligible to earn 1 base mile per US$1* or equivalent in Canadian dollars spent on the ticket price on Eligible Purchases up to a maximum of 2,500 base miles per calendar month.
Final Thoughts
I’m not suggesting that earning one SkyMile per dollar spent on Ticketmaster purchases is life-changing. Instead, I’m saying that this is an opportunity to earn some miles in a place where it was previously quite difficult to do so, and for me, that’s always a good thing.
