After using my HawaiianMiles for our flight from Honolulu to Orlando, Hawaiian Airlines started sending me offers to sign up for their Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard. Since we don’t fly to Hawaii often, I wasn’t initially interested in accumulating HawaiianMiles. However, considering the attractive sign-up bonus and the possibility that I’d eventually be able to convert them to Alaskan Airlines miles (if they merge), I decided to go for it.
Here’s some information about the Hawaiian Airlines co-brand credit card from Barclays.

Annual Fee
$99 per year
Sign Up Benefits
The Hawaiian Airlines card is currently offering a signup bonus of 70,000 bonus HawaiianMiles after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 90 days. However, I was able to sign up for 70,000 miles after my first purchase.
Spending Bonus Categories
The Hawaiian Airlines card earns 3x points on Hawaiian Airlines purchases, 2x points at gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores, and 1x points on all other purchases.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
The Hawaiian Airlines card doesn’t charge any foreign transaction fees.
Two Free Checked Bags
The cardholder will receive two checked bags free on Hawaiian Airlines-operated flights. All ticket purchases must be made with your Hawaiian Airlines Card, and the primary card member’s HawaiianMiles member number must be entered prior to check-in.
Companion Travel Discount
- You are eligible to receive a single one-time 50% discount toward one published full coach round-trip fare for a companion. The one-time 50% companion discount offer is good for 13 months from the time the Account is opened and is subject to change.
- You are also eligible to receive one companion discount for a $100 discount off one companion ticket at each Account anniversary. The $100 discount off one companion ticket at each credit card Account anniversary is good for 12 months from the Account anniversary and is subject to change.
HawaiianMiles Share Miles
As a Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard Primary Cardmember, you can send and receive HawaiianMiles from friends and family online at HawaiianAirlines.com.
- There are no transaction fees for HawaiianMiles transfers, charges per mile, or minimum or maximum number of HawaiianMiles transferred to card members.
- To receive HawaiianMiles transferred with the Share Miles program, you must have a current email address on file within your Program Account.
- Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard cardmembers may send and receive HawaiianMiles transferred from friends and family up to a maximum of ten (10) times per calendar year.

HawaiianMiles Do Not Expire
Points in the HawaiianMiles program never expire. You don’t need to keep the Hawaiian Airlines credit card. You don’t have to fly once every eighteen months. You don’t have to do anything. Your points will not expire. Period.
Chip & Pin Functionality
The Hawaiian Airlines credit card will work at unattended credit card terminals that only accept Chip and Pin. such as train ticket kiosks. Most US credit cards are Chip and Signature and will not work at these locations.
Final Thought
The Hawaiian Airlines Mastercard is a solid offering if you fly with the airline. I’m hoping that my bet pays off and the Alaska Airlines merger goes through. I’d love to have my HawaiianMiles become part of Alaska’s MileagePlan program.

If the Alaska/Hawaiian merger is completed, the card will switch to the Alaska Airlines visa credit card. The annual companion voucher is for $99.00 + taxes. This is a much better deal especially if your flight is 2000 – 3000+ miles each way.
Have they announced that the cards would convert since Hawaiian cards are from Barclays and the Alaska card is from Bank of America? The Alaska companion voucher is a better value if you can use it every year, but I signed up solely for the sign-up bonus.
