On our trip to London, we flew from Orlando to Newark before connecting to our transatlantic flight. What caught me off guard was that our inbound flight arrived at Newark’s brand-new Terminal A, while our onward flight to London departed from Terminal C.
Since I’d never connected through EWR with the new terminal open, I assumed we’d need to take the AirTrain and re-clear security. That would’ve added a lot of time and stress to the connection.
Fortunately, United operates a post-security shuttle bus between Terminals A, B, and C — and it makes connections much easier.
Why the Shuttle Matters
United now operates flights out of both Terminal A and Terminal C, while many of its Star Alliance partners (like Lufthansa, Austrian, and TAP) use Terminal B. If you’re connecting between these terminals, the shuttle allows you to:
- Stay airside the whole time (no TSA re-screening required).
- Ride directly between terminals on a secure bus that runs every few minutes.
- Connect seamlessly between United and partner airlines.
- Board only with a valid same-day boarding pass.
Where to Find the Shuttle
The shuttle pickup points are clearly marked in each terminal:
- Terminal A: Near Gate A28, look for signs pointing to the United Shuttle. A short corridor leads to the boarding area, where staff will check your boarding pass.
- Terminal B: Pickup is located near the B60s gates, close to where many Star Alliance international flights operate.
- Terminal C: Near Gate C71 in the mid-concourse area. Signs point the way to the United Shuttle, with boarding from the gate area.
Buses usually run every 10–15 minutes, though during peak connection banks they can be even more frequent.
The Bonus: Great Views From the Ramp
One unexpected perk of taking the shuttle is the plane spotting. The ride takes you across the tarmac, and you get up-close views of aircraft parked at Terminals A, B, and C.
It’s practically a mini-airport tour as you make your way between terminals.
Final Thought
If you’re connecting at Newark, don’t panic if your flights are in different terminals. The post-security shuttle between Terminals A, B & C makes the transfer quick and painless — and as a bonus, you’ll get some of the best airside views at EWR.
