Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Matthew from Live and Let’s Fly had a controversial post this week about what to do when a passenger on your plane is watching porn. I’ve never experienced this, but I can’t imagine it’s uncommon. No one was harmed in this instance, except the people who couldn’t use the lavatory while the passenger was taking care of business. I figure he might have been on his way to one of the hotels that have free on-demand porn in their rooms.
- On Rene’s Points, Chris wrote about why he probably won’t be wearing a face mask when traveling, even with the risk of Coronavirus. This is a good call because unless he’s wearing the right type of mask, it’s not going to protect him anyway.
- One of the most surprising travel stories of the week was the DHS preventing NY residents from applying for or renewing Global Entry. View From The Wing reports that even if you had applied before the rules were put in place and paid the application fees, your application was removed from the system. No worry, just another reason to apply for TSA PreCheck instead of Global Entry.
- Jon from No Mas Coach reviewed the Hyatt House in Manhattan and I have to saw his review makes me want to consider this as a place to stay. He asked if there was another place in the City that has a kitchen and we had one at the Residence Inn Times Square, a great place to stay for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
- On Miles to Memories, they discovered that Singapore Airlines is charging a fee to hold award seats if you don’t have the miles in your account. Since it can take up to two days to transfer points from a credit card currency to Singapore, the ability to hold tickets was wonderful. While the new fee is disappointing, it’s worth paying when you want to book a Singapore flight with points. Even their old product is fantastic.
- In news that we’re not yet sure of the consequences, One Mile at a Time reports that HMS Host has not renewed its exclusive contract to run Starbucks airport locations. We’re not ashamed that we like Starbucks when traveling, and if this means that airport locations may start taking mobile orders or no longer have lines through the terminal, I’m 100% behind the move.
- I like to read posts about the results of other people’s retention calls, so I was interested in this post from Point Me To The Plane about a call for their AMEX Gold card. I spent a year calling for most of our cards and while I’ve slowed down with cards we like, I have a list of cards on the chopping block if I don’t get a good enough offer.
- Gilbert from God Save The Points wrote about a new website that looks to shake up the game when booking flights. You can often save money by booking flights on different airlines to get to your destination, especially if you need a positioning flight to get to a city for cheap long-haul flights. While Skiplagged works to find flights where you skip a flight on your trip, Kiwi.com works to book your tickets on different carriers and even provide some protection on your connecting flights on the second airline if your first flight is delayed or canceled. On a happy note, congrats to Laura and Gilbert on the new addition to their family.

I once stayed at an Ibis Hotel at Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam. Ibis is like a Holiday Inn Express. Modern. Clean. Basic. There was a movie on TV. Full blown sex. You could see the man’s hot dog go in and out of the woman. It was not a porn channel. The movie after that was a normal movie. I was shocked.
I once stayed at a no tell motel in either Phoenix or Tucson. The room rate was cheap. I just needed some sleep. They had many channels of porn, all piped in from the motel, not a cable network.
