LAX Hotel With Runway Views: H Hotel – Los Angeles, CA

by joeheg

There’s not much to say about airport hotels. Some are great like the TWA Hotel JFK, Grand Hyatt SFO and the Hyatt Regency MCO. Some are less than desirable, like this JFK Airport hotel.

We were looking for a hotel room for a few hours when we had a daytime layover at LAX. I used a website to book a day room at the H Hotel LAX. While we only stayed in the room for a few hours, we got an idea about the property and feel it would be a suitable place to spend an overnight at LAX.

The 168-room H Hotel shares a building with Homewood Suites. To get to the hotel from the airport, there’s a free shuttle that’s is shared by the two hotels and Joe’s Airport Parking (not my airport parking…a different Joe). We waited about 15 minutes for a shuttle bus, which was full by the time we left the airport. We were the only ones headed to the hotel. The other passengers were headed to Joe’s Parking.

After some confusion about our reservation by HotelsByDay for a day room, we were provided a key to our room and access to the hotel facilities. To be honest, all we wanted was a bed for a nap.

The hotel has a modern design theme that goes from the hallways to the rooms.

We were assigned a room on the 11th floor, not too far from the elevators.

The room was neatly appointed but it didn’t speak much for being a part of Hilton’s Curio brand. We felt it would fit into any of Hilton’s other brands.

For us, the most important thing about the room was the bed, which was very comfortable after an early morning flight.

The bathroom was neatly appointed with two sinks and a walk-in shower.

The toilet was on the opposite side of the shower.

The H Hotel offered Crabtree & Evelyn Toiletries.

We spent a few hours sleeping, which was impressive considering how close the hotel is to LAX. We didn’t hear much airport noise from the room. That being said, if you want to look at the airport, there’s a great rooftop deck.

The hotel is located between the runways, so you can see planes taking off and landing on both sides. You also have a great view of downtown LA in the distance.

The exercise room is on the top floor, with windows facing the airport so you can work out and plane spot at the same time.

There’s a great variety of workout equipment and a single Peloton bike for guests to use.

The property also has a pool, but it’s definitely not a resort. You have to use your key card to access the area, which is right next to the road. They do a decent job of blocking the traffic with greenery.

There’s also a place to eat on-site. During the day, it features grab-and-go items.

In the evening, there’s a bar and restaurant area.

The lobby also has a dedicated work area, with several computer stations.

Final Thoughts

I was impressed by the H Hotel but I didn’t feel it met the requirements of a Curio Hotel property. I think of Curio Hotels to be unique and places that don’t fit within the other Hilton brands. The H Hotel felt more like a new hotel that was trying a little too hard to be different.

If you forget about that, we did enjoy our short stay. The room was clean and fresh. For an airport hotel, everything was in great shape and not run down. The free shuttle ran on time both to and from the airport.

In addition, you can’t beat the roof to look at LAX airport traffic. If we had an overnight stay at LAX, I’d book a stay at the H Hotel or the Homewood Suites.

I do have to add that one of our friends who used to work in the area warned us to take an UBER and not to walk around, as the neighborhood doesn’t have the best reputation.

Not to walk around at all or just at night?

Don’t have a great answer. When we posted a picture from the hotel on our socials, one of our friends gave that advice. Since we weren’t leaving the hotel, we didn’t ask for details.
