I’m Earning Over $120 Back In AMEX Offers This Month

by joeheg

While I’m a huge fan of the AMEX Offers program, I’m admittedly not the best at constantly checking our offers. The only reason I went to the AMEX App was because we booked a restaurant through RESY and I wanted to see if there were any available offers. While there there weren’t any RESY offers, I found several offers on my AMEX Platinum card.

The first one was for $50 back after spending $100 or more at a Hilton Hotel.

We used an offer like this when we stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacations on Paradise

We don’t have any Hilton stays planned before the end of the year, but it’s good to keep in mind that AMEX is offering $50 back on almost any stay unless you find a room for less than $100.

The next offer is one we’d definitely be able to take advantage of. 10% back on our wireless bill up to $40.

I usually pay for our cell phone bill with our Capital One Venture X card because of the cell phone coverage and 2X points. I’ll be glad to move our T-Mobile bill to the AMEX Platinum for a few months to get 10% back. That’s because the AMEX Platinum also provides cell phone coverage when paying your bill with the card.

I had a chuckle when I mentioned the next credit to Sharon. I asked if she could spend over $55 at BJ’s Wholesale Club before November. She replied, “Is this a challenge?”

We previously had a Costco membership but the nearest location was converted into a business store. BJ’s is less than 10 minutes from our house so we joined with them, mostly for the discounted gas prices. But we’ll make a stop inside the club a few times a year. This gives us an excuse to stock up on essentials. It’s not hard to spend $55 on a 48-pack of paper towels and laundry detergent.

I usually pay for our cable bill with the Ink Cash card to earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points. However, I can’t pass up getting 10% back on $50 each payment.

Since our cable provider lets me split payments, this one should be easy to earn the max $20 back.

The next two offers are a bit of luck that we’re going to be able to use them. Only yesterday I planned a dinner for the two of us with my father and his wife to go to Fleming’s to take advantage of Orlando’s Magical Dining promotion.

I’ll gladly earn 5 Membership Rewards per dollar for whatever I spend on dinner.

Finally, we’re planning a trip to New York City before the end of the year to check out some Broadway shows.

We’ll no doubt spend more than $150 for a show booked through Telecharge, so this is an easy $30 back.

Final Thought

Using some back-of-a-napkin math, I’m going to earn at least $120 back on these AMEX Offers from my Platinum Card. That takes a big bite out of the annual fee and makes it an easier decision to keep the card for another year.

Unfortunately, T-Mobile no longer takes discounted automatic payments by credit card. Before, I used my Delta SkyMiles card and got a 15% discount for autopay (plus the airmiles). So I’m back to paying by autopay through the bank to get the 15% discount. That’s a “better” rate for me.
