Marriott Cancun Reopens as All-Inclusive Resort But I Wouldn’t Stay There Yet

by joeheg

The first Marriott-branded all-inclusive property in the world opened in Cancun, Mexico. In March 2023, the 450-room Marriott Cancun closed for renovations. Located in the Cancun hotel zone, It was announced that the property would be transformed from a hotel into an all-inclusive resort and was scheduled to reopen at the beginning of 2024. The renovations are complete, and the Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, is open to guests.

Room rates for the spring and summer months are around $450 per night (double occupancy). Since this is an all-inclusive resort, the number of people in the room does impact the price. If you’re looking to use Marriott Bonvoy points, rooms start at around 60,000 points but do go up to 90,000 points for some weekends.

If you’re looking for a cheaper time to visit, prices drop to around 50,000 points per night in September and October.

Reviews

According to recent TripAdvisor reviews, it seems that the hotel renovations are not yet finished and construction work is still in progress. Some dining options are not available, and hotel guests have raised concerns about not receiving notifications regarding the unfinished state of the property. It’s understandable that guests are unhappy about paying the full price for an all-inclusive resort that is not yet completed.

Despite these issues, people appear to be giving good marks to the things that are open.

Final Thought

I prefer not to stay at hotels that have either just been built or have undergone major renovations. Issues like the ones currently faced by Marriott Cancun have been common in the hotel industry for decades. I believe hotels should inform their guests that although the hotel is open, it might not be fully functional, and some amenities may be unavailable.

Additionally, it’s not pleasant to stay in the midst of an active construction site. We’ve done it; we stayed at La Concha in Key West while they were in the midst of renovations and it wasn’t fun.

Once completed, the Marriott Cancun looks to be an excellent all-inclusive option in the area. However, I’d be hesitant to book a two-night stay for $900 this summer, as there may be limited dining options, and you might have to endure the noise of jackhammers in the background.
