Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Deals We Like writes about the problems you’ll have if you have an award reservation on hold from before Marriott increased the points required for many of their hotels on March 4th. Getting Marriott to honor the lower price, which they promised would be possible, is apparently harder than you’d think. But after the Marriott/SPG merger and Bonvoy rollout, what’s really surprising anymore?
- Speaking of Marriott Bonvoy, do you know there’s now an entire website dedicated to people reporting problems with the new program? If you want to read a bunch of horror stories, or have your own to share, check out https://www.bonvoyed.com/. Do you believe that Marriott didn’t buy that domain for themselves? Actually, I do believe they never though of that. (H/T to Gary at View From The Wing)
- Ok, this is the last post about Marriott. Promise. But it’s a good one. Ben (Lucky) from One Mile at a Time writes about how Marriott is paying “Travel Influencers” to spend a few days in Hong Kong in return for some press about the greatness of the Bonvoy program. If you’re in need of your weekly dose of shade, be sure to check this one out.
- In other news, Southwest has finally started to sell tickets to Hawaii. While everyone is interested in the flights from the mainland, Beat of Hawaii writes about Southwest’s inter-island flights. Competition between Southwest, Hawaiian and Alaska will hopefully lead to lower fares on these flights. If so, this might be a great way to redeem your Southwest Rapid Rewards points for inexpensive flights.
- Nick writes on Frequent Miler about when you should use the Citi Prestige card’s fourth night free benefit. While I usually look to use my Prestige for four night stays, what about stays of three nights or five nights or more? As usual, Nick wrote an article I wish I could if I had the time to figure this all out myself.
- Some people who go to Disney parks want to bring some of the “Disney magic” home with them, so they “Disneyfy” their homes. Along that line, Michael from Inside The Magic writes about where you can buy specific plate, goblet, flatware and tablecloth patterns to make your dining room look like Disney’s Haunted Mansion ballroom table.
- Ed from Pizza in Motion was able to fly on the first commercial flight from Paine Field in Seattle in decades. Check out his review of the terminal and the flight to Las Vegas. While we often wonder why people clap during flights, we’ll give a pass for the people taking this flight.
- Doctor of Credit shares information about the confirmed rumor that Starbucks will be devaluing their Starbucks Rewards program and requiring additional points for more expensive menu items. This will also make the sign up bonus for the Starbucks Rewards Visa card even less valuable.
- Finally, Road Warriorette asks everyone not to put their winter coats in the overhead bin. I hang my head in shame since I did this during my recent flight home to Orlando since once leaving the northern cold, I wouldn’t be needing it anymore. I could have put it in my carry on bag, but I was worried that American would say my bag (then stuffed full of coat) was too big for the overhead bin if I did.
