There’s no argument that New York City hotels are expensive. In fact, NYC is one of the most expensive hotel markets in the US. That means whenever you find a good deal on a hotel room in New York, you need to jump on it ASAP because it might not be around for long.
However, every destination has an off-season and for New York, that’s January and February. It’s no wonder, either…it’s cold and gray and there’s often rain, sleet or even snow.
(Note from Sharon: That was me in NYC in February, 2018. I moved to FL from NYC because I hated the cold, and there I was, with it snowing, with the temps somewhere in the 20s. I was NOT HAPPY.)
While snowflakes might seem magical over the holiday season, in February it just leads to piles of gray ice/snow mounds on every corner and dirty puddles everywhere. And did I mention it’s really cold and the wind whips through the canyons created by the skyscrapers, making it feel even worse?
However, if you’re looking to visit NYC on the cheap, that’s when you’ll need to visit.
For the second year in a row, 136 area hotels are participating in “NYC Hotel Week” which runs from January 3rd to February 12th (Which, yeah, is way longer than a week.). During the promotion, participating hotels are offering rooms at 23% off the “floating retail rate.” Each hotel can set its own terms and conditions for the promotion so you’ll need to check the website for any restrictions before booking.
Several places we’ve stayed are offering discounted rates, including:
AC Hotel New York Downtown
Fairfield by Marriott New York Manhattan/Central Park
…in addition to these New York Hotels:
- Margaritaville Resort Times Square
- New York Marriott Marquis
- The Chatwal – A Luxury Collection Hotel
While the weather when visiting New York City in January or February can be unpleasant, there are plenty of promotions to attract tourists including NYC Restaurant Week®, NYC Broadway Week℠ and NYC Must-See Week℠.
If you’re looking to visit New York City and don’t mind the cold weather, this is a great reason to start planning a trip to the city that never sleeps.
