Why Hilton Honors Can’t Remember Their Promotion Names

by joeheg

I’ll admit there’s not much to get excited about regarding hotel promotions. Hotel loyalty programs offer bonus points to members who register. The basic principle for all of them is the same. However, promotions can vary in how they dole out those extra points and how frequently they’re offered.

World of Hyatt and Marriott Bonvoy have promotions a few times a year but the Hilton Honors program runs promotions year-round.

Inevitably, this means that while each promotion is slightly different, they all seem to be the same. That’s how I feel about the newest promotion, Resort to More Points, which starts on May 1, 2023.

I clicked on the one-click registration from the email I received from Hilton Honors. They thanked me for registering.

All set! You’ve registered for the Points Unlimited Promotion, which means you’ll earn 4,000 Bonus Points on resort stays and earn 2,000 Bonus Points on all other stays from May 1 — September 5, 2023. There’s no limit to how many Points you can earn.

If “Points Unlimited” sounds familiar, that’s because it was the name of the Hilton Honors promotion in January 2021 and before that in January 2020. You can’t blame Hilton for confusing the terms of its promotions since they’re all so similar.

For the “Resort to More Points” promotion, they’ve returned to their 2018 promo where they offered 3X points at resorts and 2X points on all other stays and combined it, Frankenstein style, with the Points Unlimited promotion, where you earned 2,000 points per stay.

I don’t plan on staying at any Hilton Resorts during the promotion, so the most I’ll earn is an extra 2,000 points per Hilton stay. Since I value Hilton Honors at a minimum of 0.5 cents each, that’s a $10 rebate on each stay. Not great.

If you’re interested in registering or want to know more about the promotion details, like what stays are eligible, what counts as a Hilton resort, and the promotion dates, you can find it here.

I registered because I clicked on the email, but this one isn’t going to get me to move any stays to Hilton brand hotels.
