What Is There To Do In Minneapolis/St. Paul?

by joeheg

It’s been a while since I asked this question of our readers. But since Sharon and I are going to be traveling to St. Paul, Minnesota, we’re looking for things to do while we’re in town.

Our last visit was back in 2005. Forgive us, our visit consisted of the following:

Seeing the Mall of America

a man standing in a room with a statue of a dog

Getting a picture of the Wells Fargo Wagon

a horse carriage in a museum

and Sharon posing with the Mary Tyler Moore statue.

a woman standing next to a statue

Please forgive the poor low-light picture quality as this was almost 20 years ago. 🙂

What else is there to do in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area? We will not have a car, so whatever it is will have to be on public transport or a reasonably priced ride-share trip.

Are there any do-not-miss places to eat? Things to see? We have an entire day and absolutely no idea of what we’re going to do.

You’ve given us some great tips for Chicago, Las Vegas and London. What about Minneapolis in October 🙂

As a downtown Saint Paul resident…. There isn’t an overwhelming amount to do in Saint Paul.

There is a little food establishment and place that serves drinks called “red river kitchen at city house” down by the river as a spot to hang out that’s walkable (it is open air).

Surly brewery is a top spot and a $15 uber away.

Red Cow is known for great burgers and is a cool spot by the Cathedral if you are interested in checking that out.

There is a pretty good science museum downtown also.

Take a tour of Target Field (especially if you like baseball; take the light rail from the airport to downtown, easy walk from there)
Eat a “Juicy Lucy” (Hell’s Kitchen is downtown and accessible via light rail, also)
Minnehaha Regional Park (free, easy walk from a stop on the light rail between downtown and the airport)
Take a tour of U.S.Bank Stadium (especially if you follow pro football; light rail stop adjacent to stadium)
3 art museums

Where will you be staying? Light rail is pretty good. Mall of America, downtown mpls are nice places to see, also minnehaha falls but that would probably be a bus. Would definitely recommend the north shore Duluth area if you could get a car but it is 2 hours one way

Watch hockey, watch some more hockey, and when winter comes (probably in a couple of weeks), go ice fishing for eel pout or walleye.

Lots to do in the Twin Cities! Where are you staying? It will be easier to tell you based on that

We’re staying in St. Paul as we’re seeing a concert at the Xcel Center.
