Hotel Review: TownePlace Suites, Cape Canaveral FL

by joeheg

When Sharon began deep-sea fishing from Cape Canaveral, FL, I had to learn about the hotels in the area quickly. When you have to be at the dock for the full moon fishing boat at 5:30 AM, a hotel room near the port is quite helpful. I quickly found out that Marriott is the main player when looking for hotels near the port. These hotels would also be the best places to stay when cruising from Cape Canaveral.

I’d booked Sharon into the Residence Inn and the Springhill Suites, and then TownePlace Suites opened in October 2022. As the property was relatively new, the prices at this Marriott hotel tended to be lower than those at other hotels in the area. Sharon’s first stay was in April 2023, and she has since stayed there two more times.

We had never stayed at a TownePlace Suites before so when Sharon arrived at the hotel she texted me and asked if there was a theme to the chain. I said there wasn’t and why was she asking?

For example, when we’re staying at a Moxy hotel or a Courtyard by Marriott, we expect a certain aesthetic. But there’s no theme for TownePlace besides it’s an extended-stay hotel.

Then she texted me pictures of the lobby.

The theme is strongly based in the late 60s to early 70s, down to the foosball table and the painting of Barbara Eden from I Dream of Jeannie (Note from Sharon: they played period music, too. Monkees, Stones, Beatles, Partridge Family, etc.).

Hotel Room

While the public areas have a theme, it doesn’t carry into the hotel rooms. Her first stay was in a two-queen room.

The kitchen area was nice with a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, stovetop, sink and microwave.

The bathroom was also smartly designed, with a tub/shower combo instead of a walk-in shower.

Public Areas

The hotel has a large outdoor pool for the size of the hotel.

There’s also a small pantry in the lobby.

a room with shelves of beverages and drinks

Several washers and dryers, which is nice to see in an extended-stay hotel.

The “business center” is pretty basic, with just two PCs and a printer. Not even a chair was to be seen.

a computer desk with two monitors

The last interesting thing about the hotel was its hydration station to fill water bottles. This is so much more efficient than providing bottled water in the rooms.

Final Thought

Sharon’s repeated choice of this hotel during her visits to Cape Canaveral, despite the availability of other options nearby, indicates her satisfaction with it. Being a new establishment, there are fewer issues with broken or worn-out amenities, and the room is equipped with ample plugs, outlets, and lighting.

If you’re spending the night in Cape Canaveral, either before a cruise or a fishing trip, this might be your best option.
